We asked 50,000 teens their thoughts on the upcoming 2020 election. 62% expressed that they like to stay informed on politics. Here’s how they feel, who they like, and what concerns them.
President Trump
An overwhelming majority of Gen-Zers think negatively of President Trump. 78% believe he is doing a poor job as president, and 72% believe he will lose in 2020.
The Issues
Gun control is a large concern for teens in the coming election. 71% agree that the U.S. needs gun reform. Twice as many teens are more concerned about gun control than student debt in the coming years. Gen-Zers also care about healthcare – 77% agree that the United States should have universal healthcare.

Democratic Candidates
Given their concerns, Gen-Zers preferred candidates are unsurprising. Between the Democratic frontrunners, 48% of teens expressed their support for Bernie Sanders, 20% for Elizabeth Warren, and 17% for Joe Biden.

Social Implications
The 2020 election is a major concern for America’s youth. 53% admitted to feeling stressed about the upcoming election, and 55% answered that they don’t like discussing the election with friends.
How To Stay Informed
If you want to stay up to date on the election, watch the debates, follow the candidates on social media, and research each candidate’s platform. But, if you start to feel overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to open up about your feelings and talk to someone. Don’t allow yourself to be consumed by the election – take time to do the things you love, too! And, if you’re feeling inspired, take action. It’s the best way to make a difference!
