The royal couple of Hollywood, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, have officially called it quits after 12 years together and two years of marriage. Reports broke out early Tuesday that Jolie had filed for divorce from Pitt under irreconcilable differences. The rumor mill has been running rampant ever since with speculation on the real reasoning behind the divorce.
Media outlets have reported many possible explanations for the split including Pitt’s supposed substance abuse and Jolie’s alleged discovery that Pitt was cheating with current Allied co-star Marion Cotillard. Both parties, however, have released statements indicating what their true concern is in the aftermath of their divorce. Their six children.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids,” said Pitt in a statement to CNN. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
“Angelina will always do what’s in the best interest to protect her children,” said Geyer Kosinski, Jolie’s manager, in a statement to E! News. “She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
