The Best of the 2016 People’s Choice Awards
The awards season has finally kicked off and Wishbone users are ready to vote on which looks will be remembered and which are better left forgotten. The 2016 People’s Choice Awards were no exception with a number of key moments worth noting both on and off the red carpet.
A twist on the classic black dress
These two ladies showed the world how to vamp up the little black dress! Lucy Hale looked stunner in a Self-Portrait design garnered in lace with dark matte makeup to match. “Pretty Little Liars” co-star Shay Mitchell took a sexier approach in halter Haney gown with a high slit to show off her amazing figure. A clear winner, Shay looked both sexy and polished on the red carpet.
How to Rock a Suit 101
Star of “The Vampire Diaries” Ian Somerhalder rocked the scruff with a classic fitted black suit donned with a gray skinny tie and matching hankie. Michael Weatherly took on a different approach and went for a three-piece suit with a thick tie decorated in polka dots. While both men looked mighty handsome, Ian looked good enough to sink our teeth into.
Accessorizing On Point
This star looked on point by styling a black two-button suit with a gray scarf and simple hankie on the side. Ariana Grande’s brother, Frankie Grande, went for a more bright selection with a shiny blue suit and black and blue dress shoes. We can appreciate that it takes guts to wear a suit that can be seen from outer space, but most voters went with the first look as his ability to make the suit his own without overdoing it.
PLL Showdown: Round 2
Troian Beliisario looked both fierce and posh in a white Caterina Gatta gown with a blue high-waisted belt. She has her own unique style that brings an interesting flavor to the red carpet. Ashley Benson took a more playful look in a black long-sleeve Philipp Plein mini. Ashley may have won the voters for going towards a more conventional look that is fitting for current trends.
We can’t help but picture Ed Westwick as the poster boy for how men should dress. It may have to do with his character’s sense of style in “Gossip Girl,” but Ed knows how to hold his own. From the light pink dress shirt, to the two-button suit, and those brown shoes, Ed’s not got a hair out of place. And then there’s John Stamos, formerly known as Uncle Jessie. Talk about aging with grace! John’s all black outfit with just that hint of red won voters’ hearts and had us swooning.
How to Match In Style
Vanessa Hudgens looked like a goddess/warrior in a silver Kayat gown made to perfection. She managed to take on a bold and harsh look and made it look powerfully feminine. Kate Hudson looked the epitome of class in a white Stella McCartney jumpsuit that definitely turned heads. But at the end of the day, Vanessa took the cake for taking a chance on the red carpet.
And on to the awards…
The Fan Favorites
Whether it’s “Thor” or “The Avengers,” we have been eagerly watching Chris Hemsworth take off his shirt and every possible moment on camera. And we are not complaining. But on top of his good looks, he makes for an epic super hero and likable character off screen. Sandra Bullock herself is an amazingly talented actress who has shown us her skills through the diversity in her roles. Who knew that someone that could make us laugh uncontrollably could also bring us to genuine tears. And so, we come to a draw. Chris got half the votes for his ability to make us all fall in love with superheroes again with his mighty hammer. While Sandra got the other half of votes for being a great role model and enjoying herself at the same time.
The Speech of All Speeches
Vin Diesel was humble and funny in front of the mic while accepting the awards for “Furious 7” in the categories Favorite Movie and Favorite Action Movie. And finally, he had us reaching for the tissues when he mentioned fellow deceased actor Paul Walker and sang a verse from the film’s closing song, “See You Again.” The other notable speech was when “The View” won for Favorite Daytime Hosting Team.
Then, Kanye West was involved in another award stage-crashing except this time not intentionally. A young man stole the mic to say to plug hip-hop artist Kevin Gates and quote lyrics from West’s new song “FACTS.””My name is Zacari Nicasio. Shoutout to Kevin Gates … Yeezy jumped over the Jumpman, yes sir,” he said.
Wishbone voters were not amused. Vin Diesel had the all time greatest speech of the night and no one can dispute that.
The People’s Favorite Performances
Shawn Mendes and Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello took the stage to perform their hit song “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” The duo had a great stage chemistry and made us fall in love with the song all over again. Jason DeRulo performed a medley of his songs including “Get Ugly” and “Want to Want Me” that had the audience moving to the beat. Jason has got some killer dance moves and has a killer voice to match. Yet at the end of the night, we can’t help but melt to Shawn’s heart-breaking tune.
